How it works

Scan during the estimate. Model in 24 hours.

No extra appointment. No additional cost. The scan happens while we’re already walking the space for the estimate.

Step 01

We scan during the estimate

When CDG visits your property for the project estimate, we bring the Matterport Pro camera. The scan takes 15–45 minutes depending on space size and is non-invasive — no equipment is left behind.

Step 02

Model processed in 24 hours

Matterport’s cloud platform stitches the scan data into a fully navigable 3D model. Processing takes up to 24 hours. You receive a shareable link via email once the model is ready — no account or app required to view it.

Step 03

Shareable link sent to you

The model link is permanent. Share it with your architect, interior designer, insurance adjuster, or family members reviewing the project remotely. The model includes floor plan view, measurement tools, and full dollhouse perspective.

Why it matters

A 3D model changes how renovation projects get planned.

Most renovation estimates are based on a contractor’s notes and a tape measure. When a third party — an architect, a structural engineer, an insurance adjuster, or a remote spouse — needs to understand the space, they’re working from photos and descriptions. A Matterport model lets anyone walk the space virtually, measure distances accurate to within 1%, and see relationships between rooms that flat photos miss entirely. For insurance claims, a Matterport scan is increasingly accepted as primary documentation of pre-loss or post-loss conditions — something that would otherwise require a second site visit weeks after the event.

For renovation planning, the model serves a different purpose: it becomes the shared reference that keeps contractors, designers, and homeowners looking at the same space. Change orders and misunderstandings that stem from “I thought the ceiling was higher” or “I didn’t realize the window was that close to the corner” get caught in the model, not during framing. CDG includes the scan because it makes our estimates more accurate and our projects run cleaner — the benefit to you is a permanent record of your space that you can use however you need.

FAQ

Questions about the Matterport scan.

What exactly is a Matterport 3D scan?

Matterport is a 3D scanning system that uses infrared depth sensors to capture a space and build a navigable digital model. Unlike a 360-degree photo, a Matterport model is a true 3D reconstruction — you can walk through it in first person, view it as a dollhouse from above, look at the floor plan, and measure distances anywhere in the model. The camera is mounted on a tripod and repositioned every 8–10 feet to capture full coverage. No app is required to view the finished model — it runs in any web browser.

How accurate is the scan for measurements?

Matterport scans are accurate to within approximately 1% for linear measurements. In practical terms, a 20-foot room will measure between 19.8 and 20.2 feet in the model. The floor plan view includes labeled dimensions that you can reference during design planning. The scan is accurate enough for estimating, permit drawing preparation, and design coordination — though it is not a substitute for a licensed survey when legal boundary accuracy is required.

Who owns the model and how long does the link last?

You do. CDG shares a permanent link to your model within 24 hours of the scan. The model is hosted on Matterport’s platform, which has been operating since 2011 and hosts hundreds of millions of models. The shareable link works without a login — anyone you send it to can view the full model in a browser. You can share it with architects, designers, insurance adjusters, or family members involved in the project decision. CDG retains a copy of the model in our project file for reference during the work.
